EPC RECAST
EPC RECAST is an EU Horizon 2020 project developing a new generation of building Energy Performance Certificates: more reliable, more comparable and easier to understand, focused on renovating existing residential buildings. Coordinated by CSTB (France), with results piloted in six European countries. We built a website that makes technical research work accessible to assessors, building owners and regulators.

The subject is technical and regulatory: energy certificates, a common data model, calibration of building energy models. The site had to make extensive research material (protocol, methodology, tools, lessons learned from the pilots) navigable for very different audiences: professional assessors, building owners and tenants, and regulatory bodies at EU level. And as a European project, it had to feel serious and credible.
A research project's output outlives the project itself only if someone can find it afterwards. So we built the structure around what stays usable, rather than around the order of the work packages. The second question was who each sentence addresses: an assessor wants the method, a building owner wants the consequence. The tone is expert as a result, but without assuming the reader already knows every acronym.
